Tip of the Week

Shifting your child’s mindset into school mode

For most students, this is the last week of summer vacation. It’s certainly important to let your child soak it all in and enjoy these last days of “freedom.” But it’s equally important to begin to get your child’s mindset back into school mode.Preview your child’s upcoming fall schedule to ensure he understands his various time commitments and responsibilities. Think through his class schedule with him, and make a trip to Staples to choose the supplies he’ll need for his classes. Work together to carve out a space or two in the house that can be his “homework zone” and make sure it’s well stocked with supplies. And if he hasn’t finished his summer reading, help him make a plan to get it done. By using this week effectively, your child will be well prepared when he leaves summer vacation behind and heads back to school.
