Tip of the Week

August 4, 2026

August is not September. However…

Something changes when the calendar flips to August. Parents start thinking about school supplies, schedules, sports, and everything waiting around the corner. Before long, it feels like summer is already over.

But it isn’t! There are still evenings for ice cream, afternoons with nowhere to be, trips to the beach, and time for long walks. You don’t have to start living in September while it’s still August.

…Except when it comes to summer reading!

The start of August is a great time to chip away at the things that can otherwise overshadow those last few weeks of summer. If your child has summer reading or a project waiting, don’t save it for the final days. A chapter a day or 20 minutes a few mornings each week keeps it manageable and leaves plenty of room to enjoy what’s left of summer.

The best Augusts aren’t spent pretending school isn’t coming.

They’re spent making sure it doesn’t arrive all at once.
