Back to school prep is great executive function practice

Sales on school supplies are beginning to crop up all over. Preparing for back to school is an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of planning ahead and making lists.

  1. Does your child  prefer a binder for each class, one big binder with dividers, or an accordion folder?
  2. Do they want a separate folder only for homework?
  3. What kind of planner/calendar will they use to keep track of their assignments?
  4. Are there specific tools or supplies required for any classes (for example, a graphing calculator or colored pencils)?

By starting the process now and creating a list you will limit end-of-summer stress, streamline the time spent on-site or online shopping, and provide real-world executive function practice for your child.
