Tip of the Week
But it’s not required!
Though there are countless reasons why annotating a text is helpful, most students rarely annotate when it’s not required by the teacher. Why not?
“It takes too long.”
“I’m not allowed to write in my book.”
“I have a good memory.”
To get students into the habit of marking up text, Post-It Flags provide a great intermediate step before committing to full-on annotation. It takes less than two seconds to place a flag in a book to mark a passage, quote, or detail worth noting. It’s not the same as recording a handwritten note, but if your child is unwilling to annotate their reading, Post-It Flags can be a great compromise to get the ball rolling. Plus, they come in a variety of shapes and colors if your child wants to take it a step further and color code their annotations!
