Tip of the Week
Clear the clutter, clear the mind
By the end of the week, backpacks and binders can look like a paper tornado passed through. A weekly Sunday night reset keeps clutter from piling up and helps students enter Monday feeling calm, prepared, and in control.
Here are a few ideas to add into your routine:
- Sort papers: File notes into appropriate short-term and long-term folders and binders, recycle old worksheets, and toss scraps.
- Restock supplies: Sharpen pencils, refill sticky notes, and check chargers.
- Tidy up: Use a pencil case for small items and remove what doesn’t belong (snacks, wrappers, toys).
- Match calendar to backpack: Make sure what’s packed lines up with the week ahead like projects, practices, and gear.
This simple reset strengthens executive function skills like organization, attention to detail, and self-monitoring, and reminds students that when their space is clear, their mind is clearer, too.
