Create sticky strategies

Even with the best of intentions, turning new strategies into habits is really hard. Remember, what works for you may or may not work for your child. One way of giving your child a better chance of following through and making a strategy stick is by empowering them to choose the strategy they feel confident will work best for them. You can guide them by offering a menu of options (there are lots of ways of tracking one’s homework or organizing materials, for example), but they’ll be far more likely to try to make it work if they have a voice in the choice.
