Tip of the Week
Don’t throw 10 balls at once
Whether it’s procrastination, disorganization, an inability to effectively track and submit homework, or any other academic challenge your child may be facing during Covid, there is a natural tendency to want to try and fix everything all at once. Resist the temptation because it’s counterproductive. Instead of overwhelming your child with five or ten different strategies at one time, focus on introducing just one or two at a time. Think of it this way: if you throw 10 balls to your child all at once, it’s unlikely they’re going to catch any of them. But if you toss them just one at a time? Piece of cake! Set one or two realistic, achievable goals at a time with your child and watch them gain confidence and become more invested each step of the way. And once they’ve shown improvement, introduce one or two more new strategies. It’s like the tortoise and the hare: slow and steady wins the race.
