Tip of the Week
Finding hidden time
With packed schedules filled with school, extracurricular activities, and social commitments, sometimes students feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to squeeze in time for homework. However, the time is often there and hiding in plain sight. Be calm and get your Sherlock on and help your student find those hidden windows to get schoolwork done.
Here are a few tips to help discover those hidden time slots:
- During the commute by car or school bus. Perfect for reviewing flashcards, knocking out a simple worksheet, or checking notes.
- In study hall blocks. Instead of using that time for socializing, it’s an opportunity to get work done and check in with teachers and access support.
- During exercise. A walk or jog is a great time to listen to an audiobook.
- Before bedtime. This is a wonderful time to consider doing independent reading rather than scrolling through a device.
- “Dead time” between activities. Even if it’s just 20 minutes, help them identify what they can get started to make that time productive and reduce the stress later that evening.
Remember, every minute counts. By being mindful of these hidden time slots and making the most of them, your child will reduce stress and feel more in control of their academics.
