Flecks of gold

As we watch this year’s Winter Olympics, it’s hard to believe that each of these elite athletes were once the young child just learning to skate, ski, or snowboard. It took a lot of practice and a succession of small victories to bring them to the pinnacle of their sport. All along their journey, these athletes undoubtedly experienced setbacks and failures. Imagine if they hadn’t had the full support of their family and coaches to keep plugging. For students, it’s important to acknowledge progress and celebrate small successes. Every bit of progress and success builds confidence and strengthens intrinsic motivation. A gold medal isn’t the only barometer of success.
