Shortcuts fall short

Yesterday was the Boston Marathon, a day that reminds us what consistency, commitment, and perseverance really look like.

It also brings to mind one of its most infamous moments when, in 1980, Rosie Ruiz took a shortcut and claimed a finish she didn’t earn. She was found out quickly.

The marathon is a helpful reminder for our students that shortcuts might get you through the moment, but they don’t get you where you want to go in the long run.

As we rush through spring, focus on taking the time to do things the right way.

  1. Break down directions and carefully follow all the steps
  2. Take an extra minute to review work before hitting submit
  3. Plan ahead and set aside enough time to be thoughtful and thorough

At this time of year, shortcuts are appealing. Getting there the right way can make all the difference.
