Tip of the Week
The wheels on the bus
The honeymoon period at the start of the new school year is coming to a close. You may notice the “wheels on the bus” beginning to wobble: missing homework assignments, last-minute scrambles, slipping test grades, or an increase in procrastination. When you spot those early bumps, it’s not a cause for alarm, at least not yet. It’s a signal that it’s time for a tune up to keep things on track and running smoothly.
Here are a few ways to help steady the ride:
- Make sure they are checking their school portal daily. A quick peek identifies assignments, test dates, and teacher notes that require attention. It’s easier to steer around bumps when you see them coming.
- Use step-by-step planning: Encourage your child to break bigger tasks into smaller pieces. Doing work in parts feels much less overwhelming than tackling it all at once.
- Study smarter, not longer: Help your child find study strategies that stick like quizzing with flashcards, teaching the material out loud, or reviewing in shorter, focused bursts instead of cramming the night before.
By pulling over for a quick check-in, you can turn small wobbles into opportunities for growth, keeping your child’s ride steady all year.
