There are many ways to accomplish a task and when your child’s chosen way isn’t working, model flexible thinking and help them devise a new approach. The ability and willingness to modify or change a plan is an important executive function skill. As the saying goes: “If plan A doesn’t work, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet.”
