Tip of the Week
They’re all graduating!
Congratulations to all of the students graduating in the coming weeks from elementary school, middle school, high school, or college – and to those moving from grade to grade! Each milestone represents growth, hard work, and resilience.
What often gets overlooked during graduation season is how much growth happens outside of academics. Over time, students learn how to manage responsibilities, adapt to challenges, recover from setbacks, and navigate increasing independence. Lots of executive function growth!
Graduation season is also a time of transition. New schools, new expectations, new routines, new levels of independence. And while these moments are exciting, transitions are also when executive function skills tend to get tested the most.
So after you celebrate this milestone, keep in mind what’s coming next. The smoothest transitions happen when students enter a new environment already thinking about routines, systems, schedules, communication habits, and how they will manage increased independence before things become overwhelming.
