Change of Plans? No Problem!

During winter break something is bound to happen that will require you and your family to change your plan. Being flexible and “rolling” with unexpected change is difficult for students and adults, alike. When, for example, your flight gets delayed or your New Year’s plans fall through, take a deep breath and use it as an opportunity to model flexible thinking for your child. You might even talk through the change of plan out loud so your child can be privy to your thought process and see how it’s done. Flexibility is an important life and executive function skill. The more students see it modeled, the better they’ll be able to respond when you’re not around to problem-solve for them.
