Tip of the Week
Empower Your Child by Guiding Rather Than Telling
Be a partner that guides rather than tells. Offer your child choices and let him decide what he feels will work best. For example, if the goal is to get your child to track his homework independently, brainstorm with him the many ways he can do this. He could do it in a traditional assignment book, on a self-designed print-out placed in the front of a binder, or via an app on his computer. It’s most important that he is tracking his homework rather than exactly how he is tracking it. By empowering your child to choose the strategy that he feels will work best for him, he will take far more ownership of the process and work harder to make it successful.
