Get a jump on things. If your child has a long-term research project that will require resource materials (beyond what can be found on the internet!), discuss with him the importance of scheduling a trip to the library as soon after he is given the assignment as possible. Make sure he puts the due date of the library books in his assignment book and/or on his calendar so he can either return the books on time or renew them. And by all means, make sure he carefully records all bibliographical information so that he can properly cite his sources.
