How to Make a Plan to Finish Summer Work

With the school year inching closer, it’s time to make sure your child has a plan to finish up any summer work he’s been assigned. Defining a plan for the next couple of weeks will make it feel more manageable and achievable. Use a calendar and work backwards from the first day of school to divide up any reading or writing that needs to get done. Take into account time for buying school supplies, end-of-summer getaways, and other events already scheduled. By helping your child develop a plan, you’re helping him start the school year with a clean slate and with some momentum. You’re also gaining the added benefit of giving him some executive function skills practice prior to the start of school.
