Maximizing time spent revising and editing

Revising and editing are important parts of the writing process. Here are three tips to help your child maximize the time she spends revising and editing:

1. Save all edits and revisions until after the initial drafting process is complete so as to “chunk” tasks.
2. Use editing and revision checklists as a guide (see examples here), allowing for multiple reads of the paper for multiple purposes (grammar, word choice, transitions, etc.).
3. Read the paper out loud so the writer can “hear” her mistakes (learn more about this strategy here).
