Memory Is Not a Homework Tracker

No matter how strong your child’s memory is, she should not rely on her memory alone to track and manage her homework assignments. As students get older and the homework load increases, it becomes nearly impossible to remember and track it all. One of the reasons students default to memory is because they haven’t yet identified a method that works for them. A little investigation reveals tons of options: traditional assignment books, apps, online calendars, or creating one of her own on the computer. The key to gaining buy-in and building a new habit is by empowering the student to identify a strategy that she feels will work best for her. Memory alone is insufficient. As the saying goes: “Not only is my short-term memory horrible, but so is my short-term memory.”
