Open lines of communication with your child

Use the car ride from home to school and back (or to and from Engaging Minds) to catch up with your child on how she is feeling about school and her work. You’d be amazed at how much more information you can get out of even the most unforthcoming child when you have a front-seat-to-back-seat conversation. These conversations will signal to your child that you are interested in her education overall (not only in how she does) and are available to answer questions and offer advice. Knowing that a parent is available and “behind them” (while in front of them) is very reassuring to students.
