Practice executive function skills via summer planning

This week, many students are finishing another year of school and looking ahead to their summer plans. With excitement in the air, this time of year is a fantastic opportunity to practice planning and time management strategies with your child. Is he going to overnight camp? Map out the weeks he will be away, what he will need, and when he has time to prepare for the trip. Is he planning to attend a writing workshop or sports clinic later on in the summer? Mark those dates on the calendar so that your child knows what to expect later on in August. He’ll likely have summer reading to get done by September, so consider when he might have time to complete his summer reading, and map out a plan for that, too. Summer may be vacation time, but you and your family can still find ways to practice executive function skills together!
