Process or Product?

To empower your child to become an independent learner, train her focus on the process rather than the end product. How she gets to the end result is just as important (if not more important) than simply getting there. When your child is stuck, instead of showing her how to arrive at the answer, help her figure out how to get herself unstuck. If your child needs a checklist to keep her on task, rather than creating it for her, develop it with her. Beware the temptation to do too much! Real learning and independence happen when your child focuses on the journey to the finish line, rather than only on the finish line itself.
