Tip of the Week

Put down the highlighter and pick up a pencil!

Put down your highlighter and pick up that pencil! An effective way to ensure your child is fully engaging with the text she’s reading is to have her write notes in the margin in her own words (or on sticky notes if she doesn’t own the book). She should aim for one or two succinct notes per page. This active reading exercise will require her to stop and think carefully about what she’s read, reinforce her comprehension, and strengthen her analytical and critical reading skills.
