Take time to create a homework agenda

Many schools are moving toward having teachers post nightly homework assignments online via a schoolwide app or individual classroom websites. This can be a super resource for students if used effectively. Start by creating a complete list (in his agenda book, on a piece of paper, or on a whiteboard) of all the homework culled online. Then, teach him how to prioritize his work, estimate time on task, and generate an agenda (a plan) for the evening. Creating an agenda will aid him in planning and managing his workload for the evening, and will give him a sense of ownership over the process of working through it. Further, learning how to synthesize, organize and prioritize various pieces of information from different sources is an important executive function skill that will benefit him not only in school but also out in the world.
