The Keys to the Future

“Useful modern education is not the work of rote.”
-Seth Godin

Today, success in school and out in the real world requires that students become analytical and critical thinkers. As best-selling author Seth Godin noted in a recent blog post: “…if you can ask someone a question that causes them to…explore new ways of seeing the world or making connections, you’ve actually caused change to happen.” As your child begins to prepare for his first exams, consider some of our previous posts on active studying (ABC’s, predict it, teach it). Rote memorization as a primary strategy (while certainly still useful in some domains) is the way of the past; active engagement and critical thinking are the keys to the future.
