Tip of the Week

March 11, 2013

Use a timer as a study aid

Use a timer to help set reasonable limits for completing a task. For example, tell your child that she has 10 minutes to brainstorm ideas for her essay about her perfect pet, and then reset the timer after she has made her selection to give her another 15 minutes to list five reasons why she made this choice. Knowing that the task will be completed in a set time can help students with executive function difficulties be more focused and feel more in control of their work.
