Word associations to aid memorization

To make rote memorization more accessible, encourage your child to use word associations while studying. Your child can connect new words or terminology to familiar ideas by considering what a word sounds like, looks like, or what it reminds him of. When your child makes these important connections, he facilitates his brain’s natural process of assimilating the new and the old. With a little practice and creativity, your child will soon gain some control over those pesky vocabulary tests!
