Summer reading blues? Task initiation strategies to help!

If getting summer reading and assignments done feels like pulling teeth in your household, you are not alone. For many students, the challenge is in the initiation of the task. Perhaps your child is overwhelmed: help her break down the task into manageable pieces. Maybe she doesn’t understand the assignment: walk through the directions together slowly. Maybe she feels that she’d rather be doinganything else: work around her summer schedule and help her find “down” times where she can work in short bursts. Or, perhaps she feels that there’s no “pressure” to get it done so “why worry?”: consider bringing in a third party to make your child accountable to someone other than you. Whatever your course of action, try and understand the root of the challenge and implement specific solutions that fit your child’s individual needs.
