Tip of the Week
Ted Lasso, Peleton, Die Hard, and the 1980’s
This week we’re sharing a few Tips from 2023 that we hope can help frame the new year for you and your child. We’ve got something for everyone – Ted Lasso, Peloton, an old habit that Dies Hard, and 1980’s song lyrics.
- Enter the new year with intention. Skip the resolutions. They’re too amorphous and unrealistic. A mantra for positive thinking is a simple way of creating an intention for the new year.
- Speaking of intention, habits aren’t formed overnight. The numbers 21, 66, 254 will help you and your child set realistic goals and expectations.
- Curbing screentime is an ongoing challenge! Here’s another reminder that TikTok and YouTube shorts are detrimental to a child’s developing brain and executive function skills. As the 1980’s hit lyric says: To the Tick Tock you don’t (can’t) stop! While it’s not realistic to eliminate time spent on these platforms altogether, it is possible to find a way to limit your child’s exposure to them.
- Ted Lasso says: Be a goldfish. Goldfish, he explained, are the happiest animals on earth because they have a 10-second memory. Remind your child that one small setback shouldn’t derail the whole day, week, or school term. It’s just one data point.
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and successful 2024!
