Tip of the Week

Ted Lasso, Peleton, Die Hard, and the 1980’s

This week we’re sharing a few Tips from 2023 that we hope can help frame the new year for you and your child. We’ve got something for everyone – Ted Lasso, Peloton, an old habit that Dies Hard, and 1980’s song lyrics.

  1. Enter the new year with intention. Skip the resolutions. They’re too amorphous and unrealistic. A mantra for positive thinking is a simple way of creating an intention for the new year.
  2. Speaking of intention, habits aren’t formed overnight. The numbers 21, 66, 254 will help you and your child set realistic goals and expectations.
  3. Curbing screentime is an ongoing challenge! Here’s another reminder that TikTok and YouTube shorts are detrimental to a child’s developing brain and executive function skills. As the 1980’s hit lyric says: To the Tick Tock you don’t (can’t) stop! While it’s not realistic to eliminate time spent on these platforms altogether, it is possible to find a way to limit your child’s exposure to them.
  4. Ted Lasso says: Be a goldfish. Goldfish, he explained, are the happiest animals on earth because they have a 10-second memory. Remind your child that one small setback shouldn’t derail the whole day, week, or school term. It’s just one data point.

Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and successful 2024!
