First step in test prep
For best results on tests and quizzes, encourage your child to answer the following two questions as a first step in his studying: What material will the assessment cover? What is the format of the assessment? Short answer, multiple choice, essay, other? Knowing precisely what the assessment will cover helps the student determine where he needs to focus his time and energy (he can use a K-W-L chart to pinpoint where he has gaps in his learning). And if he knows the format of the assessment, he’ll be able to pick the appropriate strategies to use to study (flashcards, outlining essays, problem sets, etc.). With a firmer handle on what’s coming and taking the time to prepare accordingly, he’ll enter the assessment feeling well prepared and with confidence.
